Minimally invasive facial esthetics for graceful aging

The use of dermal injections such as Botox in facial esthetics is on the rise. The concern here is that trained doctors of whom the dentist is best suited best understand the use of the deadly toxin, Botox is a neurotoxin naturally occurring bacteria called Clostridium botulinum. The bacteria are harmless and become a deadly toxin when the bacterial spores transform into vegetative cells and multiply rapidly with the resulting production of excessive botulinum toxin responsible for botulism (the condition when the toxicity becomes harmful).

Basics of Botox action

Neurotoxins attack the nervous system acting as disruptors. They prevent communication of neurons reaching the muscles. There is no signal for muscle contraction because the neurotransmitter (acetylcholine) is blocked by the action of botulinum toxin. Muscle contraction allows the muscle to become less stiff or remain pliable thus continuing the elasticity associated with the young.
Botulinum toxin in very low concentrations (One kilogram of botulinum toxin is enough to kill the entire population on Earth) is the dermal injection of choice for improving dermal esthetics in the treatment of facial wrinkles and fine lines in senior citizens. Other medical conditions include

Treating eye squints
Leaky bladders
And excessive sweating

Botulinum therapy is also recommended for

Post stroke upper limb spasticity
Urinary incontinence
frown lines between eyebrows *called Glabellar lines)
And crow’s feet (called Canthal lines)

Botox procedure

The botulinum toxin is generally delivered by injecting the dissolved botulinum powder in sodium chloride solution directly into neuromuscular tissue. It takes about 72-96 hours for the toxin’s effect to manifest. This is the time required for the full synaptosomal process to take effect. This treatment boosts pliability and elasticity of skin for up to 4 months. (Ref: JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery)
Some people may exhibit mild pain, or edema (swelling) at the injection site resulting in transient numbness. Some others may undergo temporary numbness of surrounding musculature due to the toxin’s ability to block neuron communication. These factors alone warrant that trained experienced dentists perform these cosmetic procedures.

Dr. Joseph Goodman of Beverly Hills is a reputed cosmetic dentist who has performed such minimally invasive facial esthetic procedures. His clients include some the best-known faces in Hollywood and the sporting world. Being a discreet personality Dr. Joseph Goodman will never break client confidentiality.
